We picked Dexter up on Saturday. He's as an 8 week old Border Terrier.

Here he is after exerting himself yesterday:

That's an awesome picture Nick, he'll be doing a lot of that as he grows..my doggies do it now because they are bored..:)

But they can become alert in a split second and off to the races, unless it's nighttime..in which case there's no get-up and go in them..:)

Here's our guys:

Cooper, in the bow of my kayak, after wrestling with a 24 pound striper. She's looking for more. The Min-Pin from ****….. :)

And Bogan, a Heinz 57 for sure, always on guard duty…only extensive DNA tests will tell us what she is and we haven't done so yet. Both were rescues. Cooper has papers, Bogan just reads papers.

And my all time favorite pooch, Slider. He isn't with us anymore but still is my Top Dog--I've never been without a dog since I was nine years old, (that's 55 years) and Slider tops all of them. He loved riding motorcycles as much as I do and was a champion Frisbee catcher to boot.

Great topic by the way!

Cheers!

Our Border Terrier Dexter is now just over 6 months old - they really do grow fast!

Here he is with his older but slightly less obedient "sister" - our daughter Bethan :)

Hey gang. Seems like forever since I last chimed on here...all my Mac systems are running top-notch. Have nothing to report but a new member to my family. Meet Franklin :) 2015-02-17 12.58.04.jpg

Our Schnauzer has passed away. He was over 17 years old.
We now have a new baby. This is Sasha...
LXARpHO.jpg

She is part Pug and part Chihuahua. About 7 weeks old when we got her.
We've had her about a month now. Still have the 2 Labs.

He's a "pure" American Staffordshire Bull Terrier. He was taken to the Animal Protective League(same place I adopted my Golden 11 years ago, and still with us) after the mother gave birth to more puppies than the people could maintain. I got pretty lucky in my opinion. I only went there to see what kind of dogs were in, and then I saw him. I took him into the private room, and he just wouldn't leave my side. I'd get up and move, he would move. I sat down, he sat down. I knew if I were going to adopt a dog, he would be it, but I couldn't take him home because someone had placed a hold until they next day when they opened in the morning(11am). Was told to show up at opening. Showed up first, so I went home with him. I guess I wanted him more.

Thanks…I thought he was a pure breed. Great story too. Getting a pure breed at a shelter is awesome.:) You can definitely pay big bucks for pure breed dogs.

Yeah, the timing of events worked out well for me because I got to do A LOT of research overnight on him. ASBT pups go for around $1400 where I live from random sellers. All together, I paid almost $360 total including his adoption, a crate, food, insurance, and a few toys. I won't lie though, he's a tad bit more aggressive than my Golden, and he's got a bad habit of sleeping on top of my head!

He's still young...and maybe over-zealous/energetic. Probably a good idea to start with the obedience training ASAP as soon as he's old enough...so he definitely knows who's boss!:)

I've had Golden Retrievers & Newfoundlands. Both pretty laid back breeds. The Newfoundlands can be bit more independent thinkers...and at 150+ pounds for the males...if they don't want to do something they won't.

So with the "Newfies" the obediance training isn't so much to control them from unacceptable/bad behavior. It's getting them to move when you want them to move. At 150+ pounds...you can't just "Scoop" them up!;)

Now if there was some way to train them to stop drooling!!! Not gonna happen!;)

Thanks for the explanation pigoo3. I thought that maybe I had done something wrong. :Mischievous:
