Difference between "dd" function in terminal and "restore" function in disk utility?

Hi I am planning on setting up a Raspberry Pi and it requires me to copy an image to an SD card. In the wiki it says I have to use terminal and use the "dd" function. I was wondering what would be the difference between that and the "restore" function in disk utility?

I suspect there's no difference at all to be honest.

However, the PI image can be a little temperamental so I'd stick, letter for letter, to the wiki personally
