Running Windows

I have just acquired a Mac and it is a WOW!
I have a few programmes which I will have to run in Windows, in particular Photoshop. Having looked at Bootcamp, it seems that the current version does not support Vista which I have. Is it possible to obtain an earlier version which may support it?

Assuming you have a brand new Mac then I'm afraid you can only run Windows 7 or 8 in Bootcamp.

You could run Vista in a virtual machine like VirtualBox (free), Parallels (paid) or VMWare Fusion (paid).
This way you can run Photoshop without rebooting.

Thank you. Mac is a used one about 2 years old.

Then you may be in luck. . . . .

Check here to check which Mac you have and which version of OSX

If you have 10.8.2 or earlier you can install bootcamp 4 then install Vista

If you're already on 10.8.3 or above then you have to use Windows 7 or 8

All that said....... it's worth giving it a go. Worst case, you have to go back into the bootcamp assistant and remove the partition.

Get and inwardly digest the bootcamp setup guide it'll save a lot of heartache

Another option to consider... if it's a relatively new version of Photoshop, you may be able to request a license transfer over to the Mac.

Out of all the options suggested Photoshop on a virtual machine would probably be way down the lest for me. Photoshop can be resource intensive even when it is not run on a virtual machine. Add the resource needs of the vm on top of that and it doesn't strike me as a pleasant experience.

I second cwa's suggestion: call Adobe. For the price of a normal upgrade, they will send you the Mac version of Photoshop -- and since it will run natively that way, it should be the best option compared to running it through a virtualizer or a Boot Camp partition.
