Hello, I'm getting a second monitor to work along side my 24inch iMac, please could you advice me what exactly I need to run the second one and what monitor would you advise I purchase for under $300
Do you have a iPad ?? With a great App called AirDisplay $10.49 from Avatron you have yourself a second monitor.
I use my iPad Mini as a 2nd monitor to my 13"MBP. Works for me.
Check out the Dell Ultrasharp IPS panels, they are nice. The 24" might be just over $350 while you can grab the 23" and 21.5" versions for less than $300..
TV like? You mean widescreen? Perhaps you should better define what other restrictions you have for the second monitor since you only indicated your budget in the first post..
Since 1080p is in vogue, you can get 1080p (16x9) monitors for pretty cheap from any manufacturer.
You want one to match the resolution of your iMac screen at 1920x1200 (16x10 aspect ratio) you can expect to pay more for it.
Would recommend:
If your iMac has the mini-DVI, look for a monitor with DVI port.
If your iMac has the mini displayport, look for one that has a displayport input.
Personally would go with the Dell Ultrasharp.
They do have lower priced monitors than the Ultrasharp series - haven't checked, but they'll probably also be 1080p at 16x9.
