I have a question im selling my ipad on these forums and buyer is asking me for serial no. is that safe can they do anything with that number to screw me over thanks all

IMHO (not a lawyer) if you have your sales receipt, you are fine. Only mischievous thing I can think of is to use the SN to claim you stole their property. People ask this question about guns all the time too. Keep your receipts and record when stuff goes on it's merry way.

Usually what folks want with the serial number for is to:

- verify the configuration/spec's of the unit being sold
- verify the Applecare status (if remaining Applecare is claimed)

Other than this...a buyer really shouldn't need the serial number. I would think that if these 2 things are made clear to the buyer...their need for the serial number should be unnecessary.

However, when dealing with a "faceless" person whether on this forum or another, I too would want the serial number to ascertain that what I was buying is in fact what the seller is selling.

We have had folks in the BST forum exaggerate claims about what they were selling in regard to Apple care and year model. The serial number brings out the truth. ;)
