So, I have a Verizon iPhone 4 sitting around gathering dust. And my 11 year old needs a new iPod and a prepaid phone for emergencies. Any way I can use my iPhone 4 as a prepaid? I don't want him to have a data plan, just wifi when it's available. Lots of stuff online about switching AT&T sim cards but nothing about Verizon. Can't find a straight answer on the Verizon website.

The Verizon iPhone 4 operates on CDMA unlike AT&T which uses GSM. The Verizon phone does not use a SIM card. I'm not sure if you can find a pre-paid carrier plan for the Verizon phone.

I think straight talk may offer a CDMA prepaid plan or a cheap one for calling I am not sure to can check it out. You could download an app for calling and he could use it while he is on wifi as a phone but that wouldn't work if he was not on wifi.
