What is the best way to hook up a dlink router to a modem, also to configure it from a Mac book pro?

dlink and mac

Can you tell us a bit more.. What modem is this Brand and Model and what Dlink Router?

Thanks Dennis...
The Dlink is a Wireless N 159 Home Router DIR-610
The Router is a Motorola SURFBoard SB5101U DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem

Does that help? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. We think we have followed directions but must be doing something wrong yet.

Ok on the Surfboard there is a RJ45 Jack. Hook a Cat-5 cable from that jack to the WAN port on the DIR-610. Be sure it's the WAN port and not one of the LAN ports. The WAN port is yellow. Since you are obviously using Cable you want to set up the WAN part of the DIR-610 for Dynamic IP as DLink calls it or DHCP. That should work unless your cable is like Comcast here and works with MAC addresses. If it still does not work hooked up the way I just told you, let us know.

Who is your Cable internet provider so I can check on if they require the MAC address. I can help you with that if needed.

Also forgot to answer your other question. To enter the router setup with the router connected to the computer (LAN port on router to computer) open a web browser and enter 192.168.0.1.

The username is Admin and the Password is blank out of the box.

I hope you got it working. If so please report back.
