So what are the differences? I am wanting to get an apple computer for the first time so I saw the 20" with an Intel core 2 duo for a about £500 but the 21.5" also has intel core 2 duo for about £600 (core 2 duo is enough for my needs), apart from the display size increase what are the main differences to make me pay the extra £100 more?

I have absolutely no idea where you are looking at these computers (you didn't say)??...but to the best of my knowledge...Apple is not currently selling any desktop computers with a Core 2 Duo processor.

I even checked the UK Apple Store (I'm in the United States)...and I'm not seeing any core 2 duo desktop computers there.

I would suggest visiting Apple.com (UK Store)...and check out the current models that are available.:)

You will need to provide specifics about the model years before we can give you useful advice..there are iMacs in the 20"/24" range starting around 2007 or until 2009 when they switched over to the 21.5"/27" combination..

Just a guess, the 21.5" is more likely going to be the newer model (potentially better) than the 20" and at a £100 difference, it's a no brainer to go with the 21.5"..

BUT, provide us the details about the models and we'll hopefully direct you properly..oh and also tell us what your needs are..

Details.

It doesn't matter about my needs I just want to know why the first 21.5" imac is better than the last 20" imac. An obviously I'm not buying from the apple store, I am going to ebay. By the way the last 20" imac was mid 2009 versions and the first 21.5" was late 2009, what are the differences between these 2?

Giving us some context as to what you are doing, where you are shopping, and what your goals are would have REALLY been helpful in post#1!:)

If your goals are to:

- purchase a used Macintosh computer
- shop via e-Bay
- and a core 2 duo cpu is enough for you

All of this should have been spelled out in post #1.:)

Some differences in the 2 iMac models you listed. The "Late 2009" 21.5":

- greater max. ram
- larger screen resolution
- significantly faster cpu

On the contrary, your needs is what drives the decision on which iMac is better for you. I got myself a 27" iMac with an i7 processor in 2009 based on MY needs and I recently picked up a 20" iMac from 2009 for my daughter based on her needs..

But hey, if all you want are the main differences, you didn't say WHICH of the 2 20" iMacs from 2009 or the 21.5" iMacs you were looking at..so read and enjoy:

It's funny how hard you have to fight some people to get them to let you help them ...
