converting .mts file in zip folder on iMac

Hi, I've been sent a .mts video file to my iMac. I've got a number of different unzipping programmes, but they all come up saying can't unzip because it's an unsupported format. I thought .mts could be opened using Handbrake or VLC, so any ideas why the unzip won't work?

You cant unzip it because it's not zipped.

It's a video format. VLC might be able to open it.

VLC can usually open those files as you suspected. Handbrake can do the conversion as well. If it does not open in one program try the other. I occasionally get files that one program will not open when the other does open it.
