why does the png icon appear instead of picture or movie icon when i drag it into the get info art box,i would like to use snapshots taken with vlc as icons but always end up with the png icon instead any advise thanking you.

The process works like this (and probably other ways)..

Take the screenshot that you'd like to use as the icon image... open the screenshot.png in Preview app.

Drag the Preview Selection crosshairs to select the entire image.. the Press Command+C (or click EDIT>Copy)

Close or Quit Preview.app (Command+w or Command+q)

Select/highlight the Movie file you'd like.

Press Command+i

Click the upper left icon image in the "Get Info" window, near the title of the file.

You'll notice as you click the icon it highlights w/ a blue outline.

Press Command+v (paste)

Viola! Fin The End.

I followed this and was able to put an Icon where I wanted it BUT the Icon is not silhouetted. I used a .tiff.

Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics), 400 MHz, Memory 1.38GB SDRAM, OS 10.4.11 and OS 9.2.1
Machine Model: PowerMac3,1, LaCie 500GB D2 Quadra V2 7200 HDD/B-ZML.

What do you mean when you say "silhouetted"? Use .png
