Hey there! I've been a mac user for a little over 3 years now, and I don't know if I'm getting tired of it or not, but:

My older brother recently got this awesome gaming PC (Which ran windows). Now a windows computer can run more steam games than macs can, I mean, 70% of all games there aren't available on mac. But I really can't afford a new computer.

I've known about bootcamp for a while now, but I haven't really gotten down to using it. I'm wondering if I'm even going to gain anything from it. Surely I can run more games, but will the FPS and such be okay?

I can run some games okay:
Like a port for Borderlands (Yes, I own the game), Half-Life 2, and so on. These games all run at an 800x600 resolution.

So essentially what I'm asking is:

Will a Boot Camp played game lag a bunch?

Are there any downsides about getting Boot Camp?

Will Boot Camp completely **** my computer over?

Should I instead save up for a decent gaming computer?

Happy for all replies.

Here're my specs by the way:

Model Name: MacBook
Model Identifier: MacBook6,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2,26 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 3 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1,07 GHz

(If there are anything more I should include, just tell me and I'll fix it.)

Thanks for your help!

Your Mac's Specs
2017 27" iMac, 10.5" iPad Pro, iPhone 8, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 Mini, Numerous iPods, Monterey
Your MacBook (Late 2009 White model with the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M GPU) is capable of running some games. Since that model borrows 256 MB of memory from the system - shared memory - it's not capable of running any kind of game that uses a high frame rate to play. You'll probably see a lot of lag and maybe even "stuttering". Some games won't install at all. (Using a Boot Camp dual boot to Windows.)

Without going through all your questions... I'll just advise you this way: If you're interested in playing games, buy a Windows machine with dedicated graphics and plenty of VRAM. You can purchase a Win Box with those specs for a lot less than you would have to spend on a Mac with comparable numbers.

And, please don't be anxious about "bumping" your post only after a short time as you did. These forums do not have dedicated personnel available to answer questions as in an official tech support forum. Everyone is a volunteer. Next time be patient. Thanks...
