My iMac screen started having a 2" blank bar then flickered and went totally blank. It will not restart. Any ideas?

Can you describe this "bar" in a little more detail?

In any event, it sounds like a mechanical issue. Without knowing what iMac model you're talking about, it could be nearly anything, but I'd say a visit to your nearest Apple Authorised Service Provider is in order.

Sounds like an LCD problem...I hope it's not a G5 or early Intel, those were prone to a number of failures.
