Iphone apps not syncing to Itunes

I have an iphone 5. I downloaded an app on my phone, but when I tried to sync it to ITunes by connecting it to my mac, the app from my phone didn't sync across to ITunes. What do I need to do so syncing is properly done.

While your iPhone is connected to iTunes - right click on your phone in the sidebar and select 'Transfer purchases' - do this prior to syncing.
