Hope someone can help...

I currently use Plex to stream movies wirelessly from my MacBook Pro to my LG Smart TV, which is wi-fi-enabled and has a built-in Plex app.

I'm planning on buying a new external hard drive to store all my media. Ideally, I'd hook up my new hard drive to my Airport Extreme router, turning it into an Airdisk. Will I still be able to do my streaming from this Airdisk to my LG Smart TV.

As far as I can understand, the Plex Media Server being installed on my Macbook Pro, my stream will still have to run through the laptop before being sent to my TV. Will this cause choppy streaming ?

No Ethernet connection involved in all this, everything is done over wi-fi.

Thanks for the help !

Yes, you should be able to do it, but as you have already surmised, it likely will be choppy. If it is and how badly will depend on the bitrate of the videos in question.
