- 2007 Mac Book Pro 2.2 Ghz 4 GB RAM SSD OSX 10.11 & 2006 MBP Stuck At 10.6.8
Hi!
I was trying to use Garage Band today to record an antique music box tune so I can maybe identify it (oh! sure). I'm stuck trying to use a microphone.
Under "About Garage Band" it says it is Version 3.0.5 (104.10). I am using OS X 10.6.8.
I had no luck with either internal nor external microphones.
Here's what I did:
Connected the line in microphone to the MacBook Pro
Open System Preferences
Picked Line-Input & set the volume to about 80%
I could see the blue bars moving when I made sounds.
Close System Preference & Open Garage band
Chose "New Project"
Named It "This Is Not Going Well"
Closed the default piano
Went to 'Control" & turned off the metronome
Clicked the "Plus" sign in the lower left corner of Garage band's window
In the Pop-Up I chose "Real Instrument"
At the right, a tall window section opened
In that window, I chose "Real Instrument" "Vocals" "No Effects"
I clicked the red recording button near the bottom, made noises & stopped it
Clicked to rewind & re-play.
No sounds!
I made certain my volume was up & then went back to Sys Pref and deselected the external line in mic and switched to internal. I could see noise bars. I tried again in Garage Band- No luck
I experimented with every kind & manner of setting combination to no avail.
Next, I downloaded Audacity to be sure it is not a hardware problem. Microphones worked fine with Audacity.
What am I doing wrong?
Your help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks Much,
Paul
