iTunes quits when my iPod Nano 4th gen is connected

iTunes and my iPod (Nano 4th gen.) wont work together anymore since Snow Leopard is installed on my MacBook (OS X 10.6.8). The moment I plug in the iPod iTunes vanishes leaving an error message with a list of log messages. While the same iPod syncs perfectly well on my girlfriend's MacBook (OS X 10.4). Is this iPod abandoned by Apple ? Is there a way to still make them cooperate?

Is the firmware on the iPod Nano up to date?

I will get into that, but I believe it's one of the first things that I have done. After that I did a global reset.

I can verify that a 3rd gen Nano is still supported under iTunes. Hopefully the firmware update will fix it right up. Cheers!
