I am trying to get my MBP back to it's original state to give to my GF. I erased the hard drive and used the original osx install disc and reinstalled snow leopard. Ran the update function and installed the updates.

The problem is that I can't seem to i stall the additional apps from the original apps disc. Every time I try, it gets to the actual install part and a few secs later just says "install failed".

Any advice would be appreciated.

Try cleaning the disc.

Also, while the Mac is turned off, try a can of compressed air and shoot 3-4 quick blasts into the slot in varying directions to clean the lens.

Well.......this happened at 4 am and I just gave up. As I went to turn it off I saw that the update had not finished. Should have seen it but was just tired.

Let the update do its thing and restarted it and the install went smoothly.

Thanks for your answer bobtomay, I appreciate your time.
