No lights in the keyboard

I have a 3 year old 13" MBP. Today the lights did not come on fully on the keyboard. I can see a little bit of light from the front under the keys. Does this mean I have to send it for repairs? Will it work OK with out the light coming on? I have only had this MBP 5 month I bought it from a friend.

Have you tried turning up the brightness with the F6 Key?
If you have, try resetting the SMC.

Thank you for your help. I just used the laptop and the all the keys where well lit. So it was an intermittant thing. I will see if it happens again.
