Not sure if I am posting in the correct place...my apologies if I am not.

I have a new MBA late 2012 with a 512GB SSD. I'm confused as this is my first SSD. Can anyone explain what TRIM is? I understand the concept of how SSD's don't overwrite files and how the drives need to be erased before re-writing to them. (I think, anyway). In my Mac info (running ML) it tells me under the Serial ATA: trim support-Yes.

Does this mean that "Trimming" is already being done and I don't have to do anything? Or, do I need an outside program. I've read about "Trim Enabler" but isn't that for using a non-Mac SSD?

Thanks for any help!

Give this a read.

Also, on a newer MacBook Air TRIM is enabled by default, so there is no need for a third party TRIM application.
