I have a 2.6 GHz Core 2 Duo, 17 inch display. When I push the power on button I don't get a chime, so I don't get any display. The CD Rom drive sounds like it is ejecting a disk and thats it. Sometimes the fans will spin up but not always. I removed the main battery and unplugged it over night but the same thing the next morning. Does this unit have an internal clock battery? Is there a reset button on the logic board? This all started when I left it on for two weeks while I went out of town.

Ok, I tried both of these steps, no help. I've taken the bottom off once but didn't see a reset button or internal clock battery. Is there one?

You didn't tell us which model year 17" MBP that you have? The no chime usually indicates a hardware problem and most times can be traced to the logic board. And, there is no reset button or clock battery.

Not really sure what year it is. How can I tell? I was afraid the logic board was bad. Where is the best (cheapest) place to buy a reliable one? Anyone know?

In most cases (if you need a new or used working logic board)...it's usually not worth it relative to the value of the computer.

Usually you're better off taking the replacement logic board money + selling the busted computer money...and getting a new or "new to you" computer.

For example...your computer (if it was working 100%) is worth around $650. A replacement logic board is going to cost around $499:

MacBook Pro 17" Core 2 Duo 2.6 GHZ Logic Board - 661-4959 661-4964

See what I mean about not being worth it. That's if you actually need a replacement logic board.
