Hi, hope someone can help out.
After reinstalling Mac OS 10.6.8 SnowLeopard and adding updates I have problems with files saved with the extension .doc.

When trying to copy files with the extension .doc to an USB or adding as a file to a mail the extension changes to a Unix-runable (UNIX-körbar) file and it is not possible to open the file
also I get the message "cannot execute binary file"

Other files with extensions like xls, pdf, jpg don't cause the same problem.

Sounds like you have a file association issue with the default extension of OpenOffice Writer documents (which I don't remember what they are).

That should be easy enough to fix. Find one of the files, right-click on it and choose Open With, go down to "Other". Find the OpenOffice executable and check the box marked "Always open with".

That should do it. If you'd like greater control of your file associations, check out RCDefaultApp.
