I've been a Mac owner since 1989 and never had anything like this. Yesterday, while working on a freelance project in MS Word (I've been using Office 2011 for Mac since 2011), a window kept popping up, preventing me from continuing. It looks just like the Office Install Wizard. https://www.dropbox.com/s/5ywvu4b3jbprqb5/weirdwindow.png I thought someone was phishing for product keys or something(?)
I have figured out how to work around it, but it keeps coming back. I called what I thought was MicroSoft about this and ended up connected to what turned out to be MyTechGurus, who wanted $129 to fix my problem. I didn't learn what was going on until after I allowed them to remotely rummage through my desktop files. I said NO, disconnected from them, shut down my iMac, restarted, and ran the disk utility. I also reinstalled Office from the original disks. I still have the MS Office problem, but now I'm more worried about whether they did anything bad to my computer. I could not get Apple House Calls to come out until next week. Meanwhile, can I diagnose and fix any of this myself? I am changing all my passwords, but what else should I do? Please help!
