Auto-Backlit Keys

I'm having a problem with the auto backlit keys. The backlight doesn't seem to be changing intensity when i take it from a well lit environment to a dark one. I have selected the "Automatically illuminate keyboard" option in Preferences, but it doesn't seem to help. It was working fine when i first purchased my MacBook Pro (late 2011). The problem started after i fiddled with the brightness keys on the keyboard. Any help would be appreciated!! :)

Try resetting the SMC on your MBP as that controls the keyboard backlight. See the following Apple KB article to learn how: LINK
