second display for Photoshop CS6

Helo,
I'm using a laptop working on Photoshop CS6, i was thinking to use my spare monitor to act as the main display (much bigger) and the laptop screen as the tools and filters display only. When i hook up the monitor via DVI its just mirror my laptop! Any ideas?

2017 27" iMac, 10.5" iPad Pro, iPhone 8, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 Mini, Numerous iPods, Monterey
Change your display preference to "extended desktop mode" first, and then drag the small top menu bar from your notebook display to the external display. That will set the external display up to be the main one.
