Creating tones and using iTunes match

I've been using iTunes match for over a year now and generally like it since I have way too much music. However, I haven't figured out a way around a simple thing I used to do before using match. Before, I used to create my own ringtones for my iPhone. However, now that I use iTunes match rather than manually synching my phone, I can't seem to figure out how to get new tones I create to appear on my phone.
You see, once I create the tone, if I plug my phone into my computer, there doesn't seem to be any way to add the tone to my phone aside from selecting the sync option, which if I do this overrides my iTunes match data on my phone.
Does this make sense? Any of you smart Mac peeps have a work around for me?
