iMac G3 crt monitor calibration

This is an update to an earlier solved problem, So I started a new thread since it was a new but related problem, Well now,, Its doing something else strange now. Sometimes it will boot fine, other times it will boot in a one color hue. such as all red, or all blue, or all green. still visiable but with one solid color hue. And yes the trouble began when the PRAM battery went dead. I have replace the battery and had to wipe out the hard drive and reinstall 9.0. are there drivers for the video like a PC. Showing my roots here. As you can tell I'm a PC nut trying to help a Apple friend. I found an old Mac Test Pro disc on ebay and have used the video calibrator to tweak the settings, I have opened the case and installed the ground jumper wire to the video board as stated in the instructions so that the tweaked settings can be saved, but on reboot it just starts all over again. Hope an old mac tweaker can help me out

The iMac G3 has its own video card, no drivers are required. From what you report, I'm not persuaded the problem has been caused by the battery failure. It reads to me like a plain old CRT failure - and there's not a lot you can do about that - or perhaps a video card failure.

Have you (or your friend) tried feeding the iMac through an external VGA screen (the VGA socket is at the lower back of the G3). It will be a mirror image only, ie. the external monitor should show the same as the built-in screen BUT, if the ext monitor shows a standard image then you know a) the G3 video card is okay and b) the problem is likely to be the built-in CRT monitor.

If you have the OS 9 Install disk, you should try booting the G3 from that (insert the disk, choose Restart, and hold down the C key straight after the 'bong' sound). Go to top menu bar, choose Disk Utilities > First Aid > Verify Disk. That will run a hardware test on the Mac. If required, you can run repairs from Disk Utilities on the Install disk.
