I seem to be having problems opening pdf files with preview and adobe reader. I can view them ok in safari but when i save them they will not open. This appers to have begun since i upgraded to lion and appears im not the only one. I tried solutions from googling but has not fixed it. Ive uninstalled adobe and deleted the adobe internet plugin.

What exactly happens when you try to open them? How exactly are you saving them? For example, in Preview are you using the Export command or the Save As PDF command in the Print dialog? You mentioned trying several solutions. Let us know which ones so we don't suggest things that have been tried.

Here's the fix:

Open your Finder. Go to Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/

and delete the following two files: AdobePDFViewer.plugin

and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin

You'll have to enter your Admin password in order to delete both of those plugin files. Let them sit in the Trash until you can check to see if you can now save PDF files and view them with Safari. By the way, the above fix was given in the latest issue of MacWorld Magazine and it's for both Lion and Mountain Lion.
