• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Here's the tech info: older Imac running OS 10.5.8
I have a JVC Everio camcorder that I have a video on. I uploaded the video and went to open the files on it. It shows multiple files (meaning the different clips I shot) but, when I click on them to play them it says file not supported.
What do I need to do to convert these files so I can see them?? I went to the JVC website, looked for software to dowload but they had none. What do I do now?? Any help would be appreciated. Mike B.

Welcome to Mac-Forums

What extension did the files have? Where and how did you upload the files? It is possible that Perian - The swiss-army knife of QuickTime® components might help you play the file if it is in any recognized video format. If it's some raw (pre-processed) format, then you might have to to first process it before you can view the video..

This is the first time you're using the camcorder?

Which Everio do you have? If you're recording AVCHD, import using iMovie. However, if you're recording in 50/60p or i then iMovie won't recognise them. Try this link to get them to a format that iMovie recognises.
Edit 1080/50p and burn a disk

Razoredge...Yes this is the first time I am trying to upload from THIS camcorder. I previously had a Sony that loaded right up to quicktime so there was no effort needed on my part. the extension under each clip isas follows: MPV001.MOD when I try to open even using Quicktime it says this is not a movie file.

I would follow MightyGem's advice and see if you can import the video in iMovie (assuming it supports it) or follow the rest of his advice..

I had an old Panasonic Camcorder a long time back and iMovie had no problem importing the video that it was making for my editing pleasure..

I appreciate all the suggestions but unfortunately for me nothing has worked. I try to import into Imovie but, when I click on the folder it is encased in, all the clips are in unclickeable grey :( I tried those other links and doing it that way as well and they aren't working either. Back to the drawing board.

I want to thank everyone for their help. I wrote directly to JVC and finally got the answer I needed. What I was doing wrong was plugging the camcorder in before opening Imovie, that has to be done before plugging in the camcorder. With the Sony I used to have I didn't need to do that. Thanks again. That's handy to know, thanks for letting us know.
