iPod phtotos wont download because of "Unreadable Files"

I am trying to download some photos off of my old iPod onto my computer. I can see the import buttons, but the files won't download or show up highlighted so I can click on them. Then I am getting the message, "files Unreadable!"

PPC Mini, 10.4.11. Intel Mini, 10.6.8. MacBook Pro, 10.14.6. M1 MBA 11.6.3 iPhone 5 iOS 12.5,
Which sort of iPod do you have? I have a Classic, and it has to be enabled for disc use before I can access my photos. Once enabled it appears on the Desktop as an external drive and works just like a Finder window.
