Hi I was just wondering if a 1st gen Air with 1.6ghz dual core is still good for today's Internet or is it slow and useless

That machine will still do almost anything you can ask it to do minus games of course but its still a great laptop, whats its current spec? RAM/HDD. Do you have the model number thats listed on the bottom?

It's exactly as useful now as the day it was purchased. It still runs the latest everything (and still has the same very slight limitations it had then).

To be fair if I saw a 1st Gen MBA at a good price with an SSD I'd probably snatch it right up :p

2017 15" MBP, 16gig ram, 1TB SSD, OS 10.15
To me the three main drawbacks of a 1st gen. MacBook Air are:

- max. ram is 2gig
- max. OS is 10.7.5
- standard SSD is sort of small @64gig

But I would get one for the right price.:) It would be fine for internet & e-mail.
