Your Mac's Specs
iMac OS X 10.11.5; iPad2 (8.1.2-12B440); New iPad; MS-Office for Mac 2011 (14.5.5)
After I had to force quit System Preferences (it got stuck in Desktop somehow) I also restarted my iMac.

Now, when I open Finder, ALL the listing of "My Documents", "Applications" have disappeared! The docs are there, for whe I open Excel, or Word, I can open them allright...

(And "Desktop" tab in System Preferences still stops while "Loading Images"!) I have to Force Quit again...

What can be done?

Thank you for your reply. I tried to follow the hint at Macworld but the "Default" never appeared...

Simply navigate to the parent folder of each (so, for your documents folder, navigate to your user directory) and drag them back to the sidebar.
