iPod

I am having trouble syncing my iPod touch with either of my computers. I downloaded several albums from iTunes on my laptop, but it won't share with the iPod anymore. What happened? The sync comes up, is on for a split second and claims to have synced everything, but nothing has moved!
I have a 6.8 GB iPod touch which is version 4.2.1 (8C148) is it outdated or is there some other problem?

Do you have it syncing all music from your library or specific playlists or albums? With the iPod plugged in, in iTunes click on the iPod and on the right go to the Music tab. Now see exactly what is checked to be sync'ed.
