Have you ensured that the jumpers are properly plugged in?

OS X.4 Tiger is pretty old and came with 2005/2006 models. Is that what you have as the post does not say? Is the Tiger disc the original which came with the computer as it was released in Intel and PowerPC versions.

Let me ask a few questions. You put in the 10.4 Tiger DVD and boot to the installer. Have you gone to the Tools menu and ran Disk Utility? If so does the drive show there? If so partition it with one partition and be sure under advanced you select GUID partition. If it does not show in Disk Utility let us know.

yes the disk shows up but have been unable to erase, or partition - although i did not select GUID in the advanced options - the message that now keeps showing up is input/output error
