I'm about to pull the trigger on a new iMac. I'd like to have it mirror the setup of my MacBook Pro in many aspects but not all. I'd like to copy Lightroom and Photoshop over (both are fairly complex with plug-ins and other add-ons that are scattered over multiple directories). I also need to copy over my Mail setup. Finally I'm not sure about keychain and all my passwords.

Has anyone used Time Machine for this? having never had to restore from TM, especially to a different computer, I haven't a clue how to do this.

Other option is the Migration tool that I hear is available, but again never used it.

Thoughts?

Thanks

You can copy over all your stuff with Time Machine

You may be required to enter your Adobe serial numbers gain, but otherwise it should transfer your User and apps back over
