My Mac Mini's download speed is approx one third of the speed of my iPhone and iPad despite using the same wireless connection. Anyone know why this is and what I can do to fix it?
I'm running 10.6.8

a lot of things affect the signal of a wireless router , such as distance from the router, interferences such as walls , and also other electronic devices around and in the path of the signal.

Need some specifics on the mini such as year and model identifier . Is the mac mini using a standard airport a/b/g or is it wireless airport n. Since some of the first mac mini with core 2 duo are sent out with the airtport a/b/g and the iphone has airport n the iphone will have a quicker wireless speed.

It's a 2GHz Core 2 Duo with 2GB memory. This is the Airport info. I can see the a/b/g reference in there. Should it be a slow as 1/3 that of the iPhne & iPad. Are they really 3x faster?

80211.n is theoretically up to 6 times faster than 802.11g.

And when a 'g' device is actively on the network, it will slow down all the other devices to 'g' speeds.

I'd either connect that mini via ethernet or what I have done at home - I run 2 wifi networks - one is a combo 'g+n' for my last 'g' device and another is 'n' only.

Also, you still haven't told us which mini you have. Early on after Apple switched to Intel machines, there was a way to enable 'n' on some of their machines for a $1.99 charge. Don't know if that is still available, nor if yours fits into that category.

edit:
nvm - that would be the '07 model - sold all the way up through sometime in '09.
Will check to see if that one had the capability for 'n' and if it's still available and get back to you.

According to the Apple kb, the mini does not have the hardware to enable 802.11n - found here. Best I found is that the download is no longer available either, so... I'd put your mini on ethernet if you're experiencing download speeds too slow.
