I'm using Airport Utility 5.6 and I want to forward a port on my router. I go to port mapping, I put the private IP address of my server for the IP address and the port I want for public and private ports, and then save these changes. It seems like it worked, as I can connect through the port I chose from my public IP address, but only locally. When I give the public IP to other people to connect, it doesn't work. What might be going on and how can I fix it?

Do they know they have to type in http://my.domain.com:8080 -> so that their browser will go to that port - instead of 80?

Only locally - to me - seems like you aren't actually going through the Airport port mapping to get to the server. If you are behind the Airport when you try it - then you aren't testing out the port mapping. You'll have to go off network - to someone's house or the public library and try it from there.

What error messages are you getting from outside the network?

Yes I provide the link with the :8080 port. I don't have a domain (as it is unnecessary for my purposes) so I'm just using my public IP in the format http:/public.ip.address.here:8080/extension. As I said before, it works locally but when people whom I send the link to try to access the link the browser says it can not access the server.
