Hi guys! This post may not belong here, but this is the closest I could get to subject.
I downloaded this Syncmate software from a provider called Cleverbridge, paid, the fee $39.95 and received a key. So far so right, right?
Not quite.
[The program is supposedly used to synchronize any iPad, iPhone or Android device (I have also a Samsung tablet) with your Mac.]
First thing that happened was that the key they sent me did not validate the software. Validation failed. The program then asked me to do it manually if I wished. I tried that, which required to go to the site https://activate.eltima.com from another computer (which I did) and download a file to a flash drive (ends with "bin" and does not work for subsequent validations. I have to repeat the process). I then had to get that flash drive with the file and upload to the program and it was activated... For the session.
I want also to ask you to try to connect to the link provided here and report what you see.
Once I turned off my computer (iMac running 10.6.8) and turned it on the next day, the program reverted to the trial version. Uffff!
I did that three times and had enough of that, so I contacted Eltima Software by e-mail. I had a few back and forths with someone who claims to be called Alex Campbell from Eltima Software and he asked me to provide some screen captures of the responses of the software and order number, etc... Normal things.
I provided everything and then he came back saying that I had downloaded a build which had that known problem and he directed me to a new download version. RESULT? Same story.
So, I decided to use Paypal, and asked for a refund, this is still and open claim with Paypal.

So, the latest thing is that it appears that don't want to refund the $39.95 to my account. They don't say anything about why they key I was sent does not work, what is wrong with it, and why they are not able to issue a working key. That is the usual way to validate your buy of a software. If the key doesn't work, what does that tell you?
I bought this software the 29th of December 2012 and I haven't been able to use it, unless I use another computer, download a file and then bring that file back to my Mac, which is cumbersome, and on top of it, only lasts as long as you keep your mac ON.
I AM POSTING THIS FOR TWO REASONS:
1- I could loose this battle and I want others to be aware of the practices of this two companies, Eltima Software and Cleverbridge, Inc. I am warning you;DO NOT BUY FROM THEM.
In any other world, a company would gladly refund you the money and keep a customer satisfied if your claim is proved (as I did, they even agree they had this problem) , but they don't. It seems they are delaying refunding until some time is reached, which I think is 45 days form the buy as per PayPal account.
I do mind loosing $39.95 to unscrupulous companies and I dread this becomes standard, although my experience till now had been excellent with other companies.
2- The second reason is to ask for help with data if you have gone through a similar situation where a software definitely does not work and the company refuses to treat you fairly. Have you had success through claims with PayPay? Have you had failing to validate software when downloading the program(s). Any information that can help me solve this amicably and fairly is welcome.
Thanks
I have posted the KEY because it doesn't work. It is invalid.
That is how sure I am that I have followed all their solutions in good faith and none have worked. It seems to me that the "server" they key is supposed to reach is not activated is not connected, up, or whatever is that makes a connection work. Their connection scheme fails and they have deviced an alternate, cumbersome way to "validate" the software for a short time.
Thank you very much.
