Hi all, I recently had to do a clean install of mountain lion and wipe everything off due to the fact that my mac has been acting up...maybe I had something that was not compatible with ML and just needed a fresh start, prob had so much crap I didn't need anyway.

Anyway...I used to have a feature on Safari that if I wanted to perform a search for word or phrase on a webpage I would just start typing and it would automatically start searching for it. Since my clean install I have to hit command-f and then type what I am looking for. I know it's not a big deal, but it's just one of those things you miss a lot once it's gone.

Anyone have any suggestions..

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

It should still be there type in the word in the URL bar and it will drop down a box with on this page as one of the options. I just checked mine and it works just fine.

Def not there...when I start typing the page does nothing. Could it be something I need to activate? I still have everything from pre-wipe backed up via time machine on my an external hd. Is there something like a preference I could look for in there?

That's not available through any built-in functionality. In fact, incremental search that isn't explicitly launched would be frustrating for everyone if it were standard. Imagine trying to enter something into a textbox only to have your browser try to search instead.

Did you install any sort of extension to accomplish this?

Unless I am not understanding what the OP meant the screenshot I have of mine is the find feature I have had since day one of ML. Look at last line in the drop down box.

You still have to put the cursor in the address bar - you can't just start typing out of the blue.

Nor would any of that make any sense. Like I noted, how would a browser differentiate between a request for a search and normal input?

I swear I'm not crazy. But when I started typing, the find field opened automatically(as if I pressed command-f) and start searching the page for the word or words I was searching for on that page. That was it, that's all there is to it.

I really miss the feature. It wasn't an add on or extension, I just thought it was part of Safari. Maybe it's a feature in Glims, I just reinstalled that, hope that helps.

Any other suggestions though..does anyone know what I am talking about at least?

Thanks

It could be a part of Glims but I don't think any of us will know what you're talking about especially since it sounds more like a bug than a feature.
