Error Message

I have error message which pops up over and over that reads:

There was a problem connecting to the server "desktop".

The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.


How do I check these things? I know how to check my IP address, but what does it tell me about the problem when I find it?

The "server" 'desktop' would be another computer. What computer is it?
