I don't know what my administrator password and user name are. I went to accounts in system preferences and I only have one account and it's listed as standard? Help.

I'm running 10.6.4 Snow Leopard and have the install disk on hand

Boot into single user mode by holding command+s while powering on.

Try to reset the password by typing the following at the root user prompt.

fsck -fy then enter this checks for disk errors and may take a few min to run. after complete type the following.

mount -uw / then enter. This mounts the system disk as writable. Next type

passwd "username" username being your user name with out the quotations Next it will allow you to enter the new password , youll have to enter it twice to confirm it. after that type
reboot
you should now have a new password to enter at the login screen
