Iphoto export problems

I have all my photos from my old computer (nonmac) on my macbook pro stored in pictures. I have put some of them in iPhoto. I made some adjustments to a photo that I needed to use in shutterfly and I need to export it back to pictures so I can upload it to shutterfly. When I try to export it keeps saying: unable to create/users/(my name)/pictures
Can anyone help me with this problem?
