mini and imac

i am thinking of buying a mini
my old imac is 2006 model
acn i use the old imac purely as a monitor screen for the new mini and what needs to be done/taken off the old imac first to make this work if poss??

There's no video input on the iMac so I'm afraid that using it as a monitor is a non starter
