I am about to buy Windows 7 for dual booting and I have snow leopard installed Mac side. I was told by a friend I could not install Windows 7 using the snow leopard version of Boot Camp, that I would need to install the latest Operating system. Can anyone confirm if I need to update to Lion? I really do not need Lion, but really need to run windows so I can work from home. Thanks.

You haven't told us anything about your Mac? Macs that are late 2010 until the present can only run Windows 7 or 8 regardless of which version of Boot Camp they have.

And if you open up the BootCamp Assistant on your machine and read the manual, you will find out which versions of Windows it supports.

You should be able to run Windows 7 on that machine, however, you can not upgrade XP to Windows 7 without doing a clean install.

Yup, that's why I am buying a full copy of Windows 7, oem, or system builder or whatever it is called these days.

Good choice and you'll save $$ while you're at it. I have the MS boxed version and the OEM system builder's version is identical except for the way the EULA is written.

I wish it were by choice, but the fact is I can only find 64 bit windows 7 system builder, no other version, even if I wanted to, at least locally, and I do not want to order online.
