IMac OS, 10.5.8 new August 2009, desktop for simple home use.
very slow to boot up---8-10 minutes
beach ball twirls/screen freezes--seems to do this especially if graphics are on but that may be coincidence.
Is this indicative of a virus? Should I go to the Apple store for help?
Thank you

G'day and welcome to the forums.

Boot from your Leopard disc and run Repair Disc. HD maybe failing.

Any other ideas for slow boot, freezing and twirling beach ball?
I have the disc.

Did you try booting from the OSX DVD and running Disk Utility from the Utilities drop down in the installer? Have it check and repair the hard drive and see what it finds. That is what Harry was talking about.
