NEED HELP! just got a mac a few days ago, my firewire interface no worky. Anyway, need to reset to factory. I can't do the command R thing at startup because I am using a generic keyboard (which is bs that it only works with a mac keyboard) so I need to access that menu another way. FYI it is a late 2012 mac mini w/ os x 10.8.2

Well if it is not bs use the generic to access Recovery? Or do you mean it is not bs as it won't boot into Recovery?

Generic keyboards work with Macs. Is it a wireless keyboard or USB connected? If USB connected, and it's a Windows keyboard, press the Windows key plus R as soon as you hear the boot sound. Take note though.... you will need to obtain an Apple ID in order to download OS X. And it's not free. Mountain Lion is $19.99.
