Software Update Not Working

When I click on software update I get the window with the progress bar that says "checking for new software updates." When it is done it asks for my password. I type it in and it goes to the normal install window. When I click "install and restart" a pop-up comes up immediately that says "restart" as if it already did the install.

If I click restart, the computer restarts, but no updates are installed.

Any ideas on what I could try?
