Was looking at the Apple TV last night. Asked if there was a recommended Internet speed to prevent buffering and he looked at the box and pointed out the it is equipped with wi-fi.
How can you be employed by a tech braised store and not know the difference between an Internet connection and wi-fi?
Also asked if there was any free content available and he pointed out that you can get a Netflix and Hulu subscription. Needless to say I walked out empty handed.

It sounds like you already knew the answers to your questions. The person may have been young, inexperienced and felt intimidated..perhaps you could have helped them out and asked if they could find out definitively for you from one of their senior colleagues with a smile on your face. It also beats me as to why you're having a pop at ex-MS employees ?

Why would I ask a question I know the answer to? I have 3mb Internet and if I am playing Xbox and my wife is browsing the net I get lag. I've never dl'ed a movie before. If I have to have a bunch subscriptions and also need to buy faster Dl speeds I might as well get cable or dish.

He was college aged and was confidant in what he was telling me. I shouldn't have to talk to multiple people to get my questions answered. They should have proper training. Besides it was near closing time and my wife was giving me the eye for leaving her alone with our 2 y/o who was playing with the iPads.

As for my MS comment being that this is a forum dedicated to Apple it was a tounge in cheek joke. Sorry my attempt at humor was lost on you.

What is your Internet's download and upload speed. If you are experiencing lag with your current 3MB connection with the couple of activities, you'll have issues with Apple TV as well. I had 12/2 Comcast package that I used to stream movies from Netflix without any problem. I now have a 50/25 FiOS package continue to have no problems streaming..

Before jumping onto the streaming bandwagon, you might want to explore faster Internet options to ensure you have a smooth experience..

I need to do some more testing actually. The computer is on the second level and the Xbox is in the basement so I no doubt do not have the best wi-fi signal. I have to move the computer to the basement soon so we will see how it works then

That almost certainly is at least part of the problem. Something else you can do, if your router is 802.11n compliant, is set the router to use WPA2 Personal security. Using anything else will actually force the speeds to fall back to 802.11g speeds. WPA2 Personal is actually a required part of the 802.11n specifications.

Thanks. I will double check that. I am using Time Maxhine as my wi-fi router and have the Xbox set to the 5 MHz range as well

We all get cheesed off in a while...I'm a Dad (a middle aged Dad) and can get that because I can remember what it was like. I've also got a wicked sense of humour but didn't get yours..because your thread title doesn't come across that way..'Are Apple stores hiring ex Microsoft store employes?' which if you pardon me for being a bit direct smacks of bullying.
