I have 4000 pdf files. Each file name is formated as:
last name, first name, date of birth. I would like to convert the pdf file name to excel so I may sort by various options? Any suggestions? I am new to the forum so I unsure of where to list my question. Any help greatly appreciated

Please clarify for me.
You have 4000 files that look like this? :lastname,firstname,12-27-12.pdf

or you have a pdf file with 4000 names and inside that file it looks like this:
lastname, Firstname, 12/27/99
lastname2, Firstname2, 12/28/82
lastnameA, FirstnameA, 12-25-77

pdf files

all files are closed. I am trying to be able to convert to exce so I can sort the names of the files. The format for each name is:

Blow,Joe 01-01-1945 2004
Smith,Sara 10-12-1937 2008
etc

the year is last contact with the individual and it would be helpful to group by last year of contact

Thanks

What? You want to Sort 4,000 or so file names by different criteria that appear in the file names?

Excel's List function can certainly sort things, but as far as I know, each different criterion you want to sort by must be in a separate column in the Excel spreadsheet. So, if you have folders full of these pdf files, there is no magic button to push that will copy Blow - Joe - 01/01/1945 - 2004 into four columns in the same row for 4,000 files, or even one for that matter.
