When I log in to my computer, the picture/icon above my name is an owl. How would I change it?

Thanks for the links, but I can't browse the pictures on my computer or drag a picture to the menu, so I was wondering if there was some other method of changing the picture.
I tried this:
1. Went to System Preferences.
2. Clicked on "Users & Groups."
3. Hovered over the picture and clicked on the arrow.
Then, I can only use default, recents, or camera. I can't choose from my pictures.

I was able to use one of my pictures following the Apple procedure. From the Finder I opened a Finder window and located the file I wanted to use. Drop that file onto your existing icon and see what happens. That is all I had to do other than clicking done once the picture changed.

The picture I used took a few seconds to replace the existing icon but I suspect that is because it was originally a large jpg from my digital camera.

You're welcome. BTW it dawned on me after the last post that I don't know for sure how to do this using s picture from iPhoto. I think there are two possibilities:

1. Export the photo that you want to use from iPhoto and place it somewhere on your hard drive.
2. It may be that the Camera roll entry in that window might allow direct import from iPhoto.
