I use a cable like this to play audio in both our vehicles.

It works perfectly. There are a USB charger and a 3.5mm input jack hidden in the center consoles. Only the 30 pin connector is visible. It charges the phone and connects to the audio system with a single cable.
Has anyone seen Lightning connector equivalent for the iPhone 5? Or tried using something similar with a Lightning to 30 pin adapter?
